Laser 19th November‏

November 8, 2011

It’s time for the final Laser event of 2011:

Date: 19th November.

Venue: Meet in the foyer of the British Library (http://www.bl.uk/aboutus/quickinfo/loc/stp/index.html)

Time: 2pm. (Make sure you’ve had some lunch already!)

Plan for the day: To visit some of the galleries of the British Library with Andrew and Becky Fitch from Barnet. They would also like to visit a special exhibit on ‘Royal illuminations’ for which there is a charge so it needs to be booked in advance. Therefore, please contact us to let us know if you plan to come. We’ve decided to create a new event on Facebook so please join that if you plan to come (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=240209436042018).

Then we’ll head back to Barnet for some art based activities followed by dinner and games. We aim to finish at approx 7pm.

Bring an Oyster card if you’ve got one.

If you’d like any more info, email us: lasercyg@googlemail.com.

Urgent last ditch request from Laser

October 9, 2011

This message is really for the parents of those who attend the Laser events, so can you please pass this on…

Nobody has responded to our appeal for new members in February and we have since lost more members of the committee. To compound matters, Jon and Rachel Otter are moving out of the London area and are planning to step down from the committee. This means that Laser will stop and be unable to run either the regular Laser events or the Easter Weekend in 2012 without new enthusiastic committee members.

It would be a shame for Laser to grind to a halt after so many years of good work, but that’s the way it’s looking at the moment.

If you are able to help in any way or know of somebody who may be able to, please contact Jon Otter (jon_the_otter@hotmail.com, 07974 407146 ).

God bless,

The Laser Committee

Easter weekend… Feedback?

April 12, 2010

For those of you who attended the Easter weekend, we really hope you loved it. We really loved it. Please give us some feedback, by clicking on this LINK and taking the online survey!

Easter Weekend (1-5 April 2010)

The Easter weekend is an annual gathering over the Easter break (1-5 April). The event is a long weekend of fun and fellowship for approximately 100 14-30s (school year 9 plus). The morning is taken up by Bible studies and discussion groups which this year will be led by Brothers Richard Alleyne and Ben Parsons (Handsworth) on the subject “Free to be slaves”. Each person who books on has a choice of various “Creative Activity Groups” including art, craft, sport and music, which run every afternoon. Then in the evening we enjoy various activities including “It’s a knockout”, a quiz and a special themed meal. We have our own team of volunteer caterers who do an amazing job of feeding everybody. Two sets of “houseparents” (parents with children of their own) and a team of approximately 10 leaders come and stay on-site to ensure that everybody is properly looked after.

The event has been held in a school in Luton for the past 20 years or so. However, the school has made a change in their policy this year meaning that we are no longer able to hire it. We have searched high and low for a new venue and have settled on Beacon Community College in East Sussex.

The new school is more expensive to hire than the old school, so we have had to increase the price to £50 per person. We believe that this still provides excellent value for money, given that it includes food and accommodation for five days.

You can download the booking form from this site. If you’d like to come, please complete and return this form, along with a cheque made payable to “LASER CYG” as soon as possible. We are usually oversubscribed so book now to avoid disappointment.

Please feel free to contact us for more information.
